AudlemOnline reported yesterday (see here) that raw sewage was leaking into the Brook and down into Turnpike Field.
This is the latest report from Andy Davidson.
United Utilities have been in Windmill Drive for over six hours and the upshot is that the subsidence to the manhole cover does not have a quick fix.
As a temporary solution they propose to put a bung in the sewer and have a team of two tankers pump out the sewage and take it to be disposed of at presumably the local sewage works. Unfortunately this can not be undertaken until Sunday morning so the brook will continue to be polluted overnight. There will hopefully be a sight meeting on Monday to discuss a permanent solution but it is likely that the tankers will have to be operating for quite some time.
The tankers will be noisy when pumping so residents at the bottom of Windmill Drive will experience some disturbance.
In the meantime my next door neighbour is keen to emphasise that the charity shop plant sale is still going ahead tomorrow at 32 Windmill Drive.
