A local resident has just sent in the following. It's worth being aware of what sounds very suspicious behaviour:
Today at 4.20pm I was in the Audlem post office and two Eastern European ladies, looked late 20s early 30s, both plump build, both had long straight dark hair tied back in a bun with jewelled clips and both wearing large dangly jewelled earrings.
They were wearing long flowing skirts with a frill at bottom. One had a black pvc bomber style jacket, the other an over large men's style t-shirt. Both had several gold teeth at the front of their teeth.
They told the temp post master they wanted to change £680 they had in £20 notes to tens. Having watched him change all the money and count it all out they then said "no, no euros". He then proceeded to do the same thing counting all the euros out in front of them.
The lady with the pvc bomber coat was the one at the counter and she had a blank travel insurance form. That she kept pointing at saying its for my mom in Italy In broken English – the ladies were definitely not Italian. She then said she wanted to send a money gram.
At this point and now some twenty minutes later the postmaster gave them the right form to fill out and told them to come back as by now a queue had formed and the ladies appeared to be coming nervous. At this point they had their original £680 in the £20s.
This is a scam called 'ringing the changes'. They confuse the shopkeeper that much they usually end up with a lot more than they went in with, although in this case they didn't.
