The owner of a jacket is sought so it can be returned.

The jacket was left over our ill collie by a lady who kindly tended to him on the canal towpath near Bagley Lane Bridge a few weeks ago. We think the lady was walking two black labradors.

If you are that lady, or know who it might be, please phone 01630 653823. Many thanks.

Kate Down adds:

"One morning, a few weeks ago, several people were very concerned about a collie which seemed to have collapsed at the Bagley Lane lock. By the time we arrived on the scene, one very kind lady (with two black labs) had placed her fleece jacket over the dog and left him there. (I know this because she told another lady walking a dog up the canal. I think she subsequently rang the RSPCA).

I recognised the dog as Shep, belonging to George Hardy, so we phoned him when we got home and he rang back later to confirm that it was his dog, that they had got him on his feet and managed to get him home and had made him comfortable.

He phoned us again last week to say that it seemed that the dog had had a stroke, but that, apart from holding his head a little to one side, he had made a good recovery. However, he was very concerned that he should return the jacket to the kind lady and thank her.

Unfortunately, neither he nor we have been able to discover who she is, whether she lives in the village or just visiting, so if anyone can throw any light on this, George Hardy would be delighted.

His phone number is 01630 653823.
