It was a top of the table clash this week with Audlem Saints U8s taking on Wistaston Cubs. Wistaston had won 5 from 5 before this fixture, scoring an incredible 52 goals in the process. Audlem had won 4 from 4 (scoring a more modest 10 goals) and so something had to give!

The game started brightly for both sides with plenty of flowing, attractive football. Good work from both defences kept the opportunities to score down to a minimum and the first period ended 0-0. The second period saw Audlem take control. A super long range goal was added to with a neat finish after great passing. 2-0 to Audlem at the end of the second period.

During the third period, it was the turn of the normally free scoring Cubs team to apply some presure. They created plenty of chances and deservedly pulled two goals back to level the scores. A draw was a fair result, but one that had looked in doubt a few minutes from time when Cubs were awarded a penalty. The kick was struck well and looked to be heading for the bottom corner but the Audlem keeper flung himself to his right and got one hand on it to touch it round the post. A super piece of play that typified the whole game- committed, skilful and entertaining. Well done lads!

Played 5 – won 4, drawn 1.
