Audlem Saints U8s football team made it 5 wins from 5 games on Sunday, with a hard fought victory over Nantwich Tigers. Cold, wet and windy conditions reduced the team talk to "run around a lot and stay warm" and both teams deserve credit for putting on a super show in awful conditions.

Audlem applied good early pressure with some simple but effective short range passing. Chances were created and two were tucked away to open up a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. Nantwich got themselves back into the game when a (harsh) penalty was awarded against Audlem.

Many chances were created at the other end though, and only a super goalkeeping performance kept the Nantwich team in the game. However, a second penalty of the game was awarded, this time to Audlem. This decision was also for handball and was also very harsh. Messrs Mourinho, Wenger & Ferguson might have suspected that the referee was trying to level things up a bit!! In any event, it was smashed home to re-establish the two goal advantage.

Nantwich scrambled another late goal to give them hope but an excellent long range finish immediately settled the game 4-2. An excellent performance in truly dreadful conditions. Well done to all the boys – and especially to the wet and frost bitten parents!
