Audlem Saints maintained their 100% record on Sunday with an excellent performance against Cougars. The boys defended well and restricted Cougars to only half chances whilst passing with fluency to create plenty of opportunities for themselves.

Gordon Banks' save from Pele, Maradona's goal against England, Paul Gascoine's goal against Scotland – all great footballing moments, but Audlem Saints Under 8s provided a memory that will live with me forever on Sunday. Having saved a shot, the Audlem keeper rolled the ball out. There then followed a succession of intelligent, accurate passes in a move that saw every Audlem player touch the ball. Several of the passes were made with the players "wrong" foot and each one was executed perfectly. Finally the ball was pushed through to an Audlem striker in space who tucked the ball calmly into the corner of the net (again with his "wrong" foot)! Pure, simple, footballing perfection!!!

Just for good measure, a fine individual goal was also scored when a rasping left foot curler found the roof of the net. Audlem ran out well deserved 5-1 winners to go clear at the top of the table having played 7 won 7. Next week, second placed Betley are in opposition.
