Saints hit top form

ASC Saints took on Crewe Terriers in South Cheshire Youth League U11s Div 1 game on Sunday.

Saints had beaten Terriers 2-0 the last time that the two sides met but Saints had struggled to break through a side determined to defend that day.

Consequently, there was a change of formation for Sunday's game with Saints going for a very attacking set up from the off in the hope of scoring a couple of quick goals. The plan worked well as right from the kick off good movement and slick passing caused problems for Terriers.

Saints scored early and added three more to lead 4-0 at half time. The first half performance was probably the best that the Saints have ever played – quick, possession football in which very few passes went astray. The ball was moved from side to side and back and forward until chances were created.

Clinical finishing topped the job off. Everyone worked hard, everyone did their job and some of the football was just wonderful.

The boys kept the pressure on with more of the same in the second half, even with a few changes of players and positions. Five more goals were added and Saints ran out very much deserved 9-0 winners.

Perhaps the most pleasing aspect was that several of the boys put into practice the individual learning that they had worked on in training. Well done boys!

The win leaves Saints at the top of the league with 8 games to go. The two nearest rivals also won their games and it looks set to be an exciting finish to the season.
