Audlem Saints U8s stretched their unbeaten run to 5 games yesterday but were held to a 1-1 draw by a tough tackling Diabolos team. On a bitterly cold morning, both teams showed great spirit in a close match. Faced with a bigger and more physical opposition, the Saints had to stick to their principles of fair play and skilful touches. It looked like being in vain as Diabolos scored a good goal to take a 1-0 lead into the final session. However, after a blatant rugby tackle, Audlem were awarded a free kick just outside the area. What followed was absolutely marvellous. A sweet, right footed strike sent the ball curling into the top corner to level the scores. Saints then hit both post and cross bar in the final minutes and can be considered unfortunate not to win. However, a draw leaves Audlem having played 9, won 7 and drawn 1.
