Manchester United, Chelsea & Arsenal may be locked in a title race but it is nothing compared to the one that ASC Saints, Nantwich Town and Boca Juniors are involved in for the South Cheshire Youth League U11s Division One.

ASC Saints suffered only their second defeat of the season last week to Nantwich Town and in doing so handed the initiative in the title race to the Dabbers.

It was important that Saints responded this week with a good performance. Last week's loss had taken the pursuit of the league title out of their own hands – all they could do was to win the remaining 4 games and hope for other results to go their way.

Opponents on Sunday were Boro Boys, a very organised, tough side to beat – and they were high on confidence having won a cup semi-final on Wednesday.

The game was a good one, with a super flow to it. Saints deserve a huge amount of credit for a very high work rate on a hot day. They competed well in the middle of the park and controlled passing brought about several half chances in a tight first half.

The game looked set to go into the break at 0-0 before a really intelligent piece of play led to a goal for Saints. Having won a corner, Saints' central midfielder raced over to the ball and took a quick, short corner to the striker. The striker beat a man before firing into the top corner from the edge of the box. That super goal proved to be the only one of the game and with Saints defence holding firm, it secured all three points for Saints.

A good day was made even better when news filtered through that Nantwich Town had been beaten. So, with three games left to play Saints are back in the title race. If Saints win their remaining three games, the worst that they can finish is joint top (necessitating a play off). Three tough games to come though so its time to knuckle down and get the results and then see what happens.

Before that exciting finish to the league programme, Saints have a cup semi-final Vs Kidsgrove on Wednesday at Green Street, Sandbach (6.30pm).
