After decades of relative calm throughout Europe, the wider Europe is currently experiencing troubled and uncertain prospects.
Audlem Probus Club members will be hearing at this week's meeting (Thur, March 13) an in-depth account of Russia's part in the "then and now" of the current, troubled international climate.
The guest speaker, Dave Walmsley, a well-known Oxford-qualified historian, will look at Russia and its neighbours, including Ukraine, from the earliest times. After examining Russia's expansion leading to the Soviet Empire and its subsequent collapse, Dave will reflect on Putin's rise to power, and the relationships between Russia and its neighbours, including other powers, since then.
As Dave says: "The ending is being rewritten (who knows what will happen in the next few weeks) and a new phase in history is being forged!"
Visitors are welcome to join Probus Club's retired professional men and women from 10am, March 13, at Audlem Public Hall
