These are extracts from recent rural alerts, following a recent spate of incidents locally –

From Karen Rhodes-Brandt (April 4th)

Just to keep you updated following my recent meeting to discuss rural crime with Janet Clowes and our MP, Antoinette Sandbach.
Antoinette Sandbach has written to the acting police commissioner for our area, raising her concerns as to why we only have minimal cover for the area. One PC and one PCSO. She also suggested an initiative to mark items and goods to make the taking of them less attractive in the first place.

We also need to hold a public meeting to raise awareness of our issues and concerns, getting locals more involved and vigilant, and inviting the police to this to talk to us and let us know what they are doing as we certainly don't feel there is any support or action from them and these incidences are becoming seemingly daily occurrences. I'll get back to you once I've heard back from Janet and Antoinette. I am sure if we all pull together we can help each other in reducing these crimes !

From Janet Clowes (April 10th)

I met with PCSO Nick Jarvis and PC Sarah Marsden this morning. I shared the issues that Karen and I discussed with Antoinette Sandbach MP and discussed ways forward.

It was felt that your idea of a public meeting had merit and we identified Wednesday 9th May at 7.00pm (venue to be confirmed) – but it will be local to Wybunbury and Audlem Wards. The sort of things we discussed and you may wish to explore further are

  • "Selecta DNA"(Smart Water equivalent) to mark valuable items (and the CWaC experience),
  • logging ID numbers of vehicles, machinery and heavy plant etc on the Police National database
  • exploring the rural crime data (risk / perceptions of crime / trends / solutions),
  • Other related issues: rural fly-tipping, Nominated Neighbour schemes, Rural Watch, Equine Watch.

It is intended that this should be a public meeting open to local residents and Parish Councils. I hope I've covered most points but Karen Rhodes-Brandt and I will keep you posted as arrangements progress.

Further news and details of a public meeting will be published when they are available.
