Alert celebrity spotters may have noted a well-known face in Audlem over the past week. The actress Rula Lenska has been enjoying lunch at the Salad Bowl's Coffee Lounge each day. She has been staying locally while appearing in Don't Look Now at the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe.
Ms Lenska was born into an aristrocratic Polish family as Countess Roza-Marie Leopoldyna Lubienska. She has appeared in many TV series such as Minder – when she met husband-to-be Dennis Waterman – Boon, Footballers' Wives, Doctor Who, East Enders and many more. She became famous in the United States as star of Alberto VO5's hair product ads that began with her saying: "I'm Rula Lenska", despite being a complete unknown when the campaign started.
To the disappointment of his many fans, the politician George Galloway was nowhere to be seen in Audlem during the week. The MP and Rula Lenska were famously appearing together on Celebrity Big Brother when in a role-playing task, Galloway, as a cat, pretended to lick milk from her cupped hands, while Lenska stroked his ears and moustache! After this success, she was offered a five figure deal to promote a cat food brand, although the ads have yet to appear. In Don't Look Now last week, she was appearing with actors from Emmerdale and Dr Who, Peter Amory and Nicola Bryant. We understand she also thoroughly enjoyed her lunches at the Coffee Lounge.
