Cheshire East Council has announced that Wellington Road in Nantwich will be closed to northbound traffic from 13th February for approximately four weeks.

Wellington Road is the main road from Audlem into Nantwich passing by Nantwich Station. The road will be closed from the junction with Park Road (that's the road from Nantwich to Whitchurch) almost to the level crossing at the station, that's its junction with Station View.

The road will remain open to southbound traffic. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

The recommended alternative route for northbound traffic during the closure will be via Audlem Road, Peter de Stapleigh Way, Elwood Way, Newcastle Road, London Road, Pratchitts Row, Station Road.

Audlem Online also suggests that Coole Lane may be a useful alternative – although it helps if you have an all-terrain vehicle given the current road surface.

After the junction with the Whitchurch – Nantwich road, head into Nantwich and turn left on to Shrewbridge Road. Again, the all-terrain vehicle will help with the many speed bumps.

The closure of Wellington Road is necessary to enable Enterprise PLC to carry out gas main replacement works. It is anticipated that the works will commence on 13th February 2010 and will take approximately 4 weeks to complete.
