Audlem Online received the following message from Janet Maughan:

Hi please could you make people aware of the following scam -- it happened to me on Tuesday and they might still be in the area.

Whilst driving from Market Drayton to Audlem I was flagged down by a young man dressed in a suit, next to a car with a lady sat inside. The car was a smallish one with foreign plates. I wouldn't normally stop but was concerned there had been an accident.

I locked the doors and put my window down a little -- he told me he was a business man from Germany (however he had a middle eastern accent) and his credit card had stopped working so he couldn't buy any petrol -- he persistently offered me his business card and a gold ring in exchange for cash. I gave him a small amount of cash and took just his business card so I could drive off safely.

THIS IS A SCAM! -- I checked on the internet and gangs have been targeting Shropshire. The business card and rings are false. If you see someone try to flag you down who looks in any way suspicious and you feel you should stop, keep your doors locked and your car ready to drive off.

Do not hand over any money!
