A reminder that the A525 road closure is scheduled to start today meaning that the East of England is cut off from Audlem!
The closure, we understand is from Candle Lane, just west of Woore village to the Shropshire/ Cheshire border about three miles east of Audlem. Numerous diversion signs are now in place.
In its weekly BBC Radio Stoke slot – it was 5.25pm on Friday last week, but the days do vary but normally the same time – AudlemOnline expressed the view that this closure may be a blessing: long enough that some long-distance HGV drivers find they prefer the Primary Routes to the north (A500) and south (A53).
Both routes, after all, are much easier, faster and use less fuel than the narrow, winding A525 through Audlem with its frequent blockages and testing hill starts in Stafford Street.
Some have hoped that Cheshire East will also seize the opportunity of the closure to resurface Stafford Street and in particular the southside pavement which is an atrocious state. It's scheduled to be repaired, we understand, so this might be an ideal time.
Even better, we have heard from one wise person, perhaps Cheshire East should close the road to repair the Stafford Street pavement immediately after the Shropshire closure, so giving the long-distance HGVs an even longer time to discover the joys of alternative routes.
