Review of 2022
The editors have decided to reprise the positive aspects of coming out of the pandemic
- Churches have regained congregations (baptisms, weddings and funerals can be decently attended)
- Back to 3 pubs! – and there is the White Lion at Hankelow!
- Shops all surviving (some have changed hands). Indeed, Williams have now been established for over 160 years!
- We still have a post office – so many have disappeared for good.
- 2 new restaurants – Linden Stores and an even more recently opened Italian one.
- Cafes have changed hands – but are still here!
- New bike/running shop
- Reinvigorated Parish Council – new councillors co-opted, new clerk (an experienced locum), and currently under Jackie Weaver's watchful eye! Elections in May 23.
- Local groups such as Womens Institute, Probus and the History Society are meeting again
- The football team and junior saints are having a very successful season
- The tennis and cricket clubs are thriving again
- Audlem Fete – a wonderful event on Turnpike
- The Party in the Park – already heavily booked for next year (well done ASET!)
- The Music Festival at the Marina was a great success and we look forward to next years (see recent article)
- Audlem Voices held a recent concert in St James – and also the Bridge Inn! (Jenny Collis-Smith always looking for new talent – especially men)
- Festival of Transport
- Carols in the "Square" with the Crewe Brass Band
- Brass in the village on Christmas Eve
- Only one Charity Shop! (and a thriving good one it is!) Quite different to so many towns where multiple empty premises have become Charity shops)
- Buses are running – with passengers!
- ADCA – Audlem & District Community Action -providing welfare support to vulnerable and socially isolated adults and older people, as well as the ever-increasing number of carers
- ADAS – Audlem & District Amenities Society – flowering beds, christmas trees and much more
- AWEG – happily chasing bugs in various obscure corners. In fact fun guys went to Brown Moss to dicover many fungis!
- Audlem Lass, Wheelyboat and Wheelybus are now active again in the season with Wheelybus helping ADCA with transport to their events also
- ARS – Audlem Ramblers never really (Legally!) stopped
- Turnpike – great progress on the footway across to Green Lane
- Audlem theatre productions an Pantos have restarted (oh yes the have!)
- Zumba in the Public Hall – Pilates locally
- The Gym in the village – local and inexpensive – great funding for the public hall!
- The public hall! A great place for functions – another big band dance coming up in 23
Most of these facts are or have been published on Audlem Online. We know we will have missed many positives about Audlem & District, and with a serious lack of news articles at present would be delighted to receive your Audlem & District highlights!
Compliments of the season and best wishes for the new year from the AOL editors!
