Aftermath

Soldiers marching
Home from war -
Hearts bursting,
Hope high, feet sore,
Heads hanging -
Weary all.

Thoughts of home -
Rest, warmth.
Family, love
Smiles, sleep.
Promise, relief.
Waiting, wanting, needing.
Men don't weep.

No tears for fallen comrades
Only memories
Forever there -
The futile call of war.
