When Cheshire East Council comes into being on 1st April, residents in the existing Crewe and Nantwich borough who currently pay for the collection of garden waste via the brown bins will make a saving of £23 per year. This is because the cost of the service will be included in the general council tax payment. The move will bring us into line with residents in the remainder of the new council area, which succeeds the existing Crewe and Nantwich, Congleton and Macclesfield councils.

Residents of all "rural" areas of the Crewe and Nantwich area who use the brown bin service have already paid for twenty-four collections from 1st August 2008 up to 31st July 2009. This means that, as the service will be "free" from April, these residents will have paid too much. In Audlem's case this equates to one third of the total number of collections.

A regular contributor to Audlem Online has contacted the Borough Council in connection with this payment and asked how the overpayment for the eight collections will be refunded. The overpayment equates to £7.67 per household.
