Summer Reading Challenge 2021

Cheshire East Libraries are delighted that the Summer Reading Challenge is back in our libraries this summer! Organised by The Reading Agency in partnership with local libraries across the UK the theme this year is Wild World Heroes, a celebration of nature and action for the environment.

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays. You can sign up at your local library, choose your reading goal (we recommend six books), then read any library books of your choice to collect special stickers along the way -- all for FREE! There is a certificate and a shiny medal (or medal sticker for under 3's) for everyone who finishes. Libraries will also be running various events alongside the challenge to add to the fun.

Children's reading can 'dip' during the long summer holidays if they do not have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure and this can be a problem for schools to put right in the new term. The disruption of education for pupils caused by Covid-19, makes this challenge even greater. The Reading Agency's annual Summer Reading Challenge really helps by getting over children regularly into libraries over the summer, with thousands more taking part online.

The Summer Reading Challenge will begin in Cheshire East Libraries on Saturday 3rd July and run all the way through the summer until early September.

This year for the first time we are offering families the chance to pre-register by phone starting on Monday 21st June. Just give your library a call (with your child's library card number handy) and library staff will go through the registration details with you and get your pack ready for you collect from Saturday 3rd July.

We're looking forward to seeing you there!
