Re-Opened Walk to Adderley

Audlem Ramblers were able to walk to Adderley along a path which was illegally "closed" by a local land owner back in the 1950s.

The right of way was originally established to enable locals get to the railway station at Adderley.

It was probably used less after the Cox Bank Halt was introduced – but it takes quite a lot more to close an established right of way than the landowner either knew or ignored!

It has taken Peter Kay 19 years to get this re-opened – well done sir!

The route taken was from Audlem along the towpath to Bagley Lane, then over the stile at the junction with Wood Orchard Lane. This takes you to a canal bridge, where it is now possible to cross or join the canal towpath.

Our route on Saturday was across the bridge, through Pool farm and past the lake and a very handsome country house, then along the bridle way (clearly signed) that leads back to the canal and then towards Highfields. There was an impressive line of well established oak trees along this path. At the canal bridge we headed back towards Audlem – the wetter people continuing along the tow path, with Peter leading the hardened walkers back across the 2nd re-opened path to join Bagley Lane close to the junction with Kettle Lane.

Then back to the villlage for a de-brief at the Shroppie!
