Ramblers Short Walk – Sat 27th July

Jean Stainthorpe will lead the next Short ARS walk on Saturday 27th July; meet Audlem Car Park for departure at 8.30 am.

The walk:-

A 5½ mile walk at Marbury, along the canal tow path to Willeymoor Lock, then joining Bishop Bennett Way, taking a steady incline up to Wirswall, the highest point in this part of Cheshire and from which there are great views across to the Sandstone Ridge Hills. We then pass Wickstead Hall, take a gentle descent across fields, around the Big Mere and back into Marbury.

Most stiles have an openable gate alongside and it is fairly dog friendly though there are usually sheep in the fields. If the dry weather continues it should be reasonably OK underfoot, but it is always muddy by the Mere, regardless of the season/weather. The consolation being that it is at the end of the walk!

Directions

From Audlem take Whitchurch Road, right along Rookery Lane, cross A530 into Aston, carry on through past Bhurtpore pub, take Pinsley Green Road, left onto Wrenbury Road and into the village of Marbury.

Look out for the Swan Inn at Marbury on your right where we can park SY13 4LS.

NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.

Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.

Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
