A lucky 9 Audlem Ramblers had a wonderful good weather walk last Saturday!
Setting out by 8:30, the walk started just before 9:30 in glorious sunshine – which persisted all day!
The 8 mile walk set out towards Castell Dinas Bran, but skillfully avoided an early climb – that was saved until the end! We then essentially followed the Clwydian Way past Vale Crucius to the base of the limestone escarpment close to World's End, and returning along Offa's Dyke footpath and over Castell Dinas Bran to return to Llangollen.
8 miles and 1500ft ascent/descent achieved in 4.5 hours which includes a coffee and lunch stop.
Debrief held at the Shroppie Fly with a very noisy hurdy gurdy/pipes/etc session in full spate!
The river at Llangollen was "lively" and there were many canoeists taking advantage of challenging conditions.
The railway still operates, but sadly appears not yet to be able to return to pre-covid timetables and steam hauled numbers.
