Ragwort in Turnpike – the work continues

Thanks to our amazing volunteers and a man with a tractor, we have put in 49 man/woman hours clearing the ragwort in Turnpike field. It is extremely rewarding to see the resulting expanses clear of the dreaded plant.

We do have a big job on our hands to clear as much ragwort as possible. We have two more volunteer sessions planned, but have CANCELLED the Thursday 11th August one as the weather is predicted to be exceptionally hot by the end of the week.

So please note we have two sessions planned for

Tuesday 9th August 10-12 and 18.30-20.30. and hope to see as many of you as possible

As before The Green Lane gate will be open again for vehicles, so meet there at the start time, or come and find us if you're joining us later.

Please bring garden forks, gloves, long sleeves and vis-vests if you have one. If you own or can borrow a ragwort fork that reduces the effort. Also wheelbarrows to move the plants to the tip area of the field. AND don't forget a drink, it's thirsty work.

Ragwort is only mildly poisonous and does not pose any significant risk from handling the plant, either from its pollen or from being contact with it. However, the less time handling it the better.
