AudlemOnline has received this message fro m William Biggar, and we thought it might be of interest to those in ADAPT and the Parish Council Highways group.

My wife and I moved to this area 3 1/2 years ago and thoroughly enjoy every aspect of the area and the community.

My concern is regarding the stretch of lane from Norton-in-Hales to Audlem viz. via Bellaport Road – Woodhouse Lane – Kettle Lane – Paddock Lane, all of which is a part of the designated National Cycle Route 552.

It is predominately a single track road with some sharp and often partially obscured bends and particularly narrow sections.

Living partway along this route, it is not the type of traffic which use the route I am concerned about but the speed at which some drivers travel along it. It serves numerous farms along the way and of course, heavy vehicles are naturally obliged to use it.

I have been looking at the basic requirements for this route to be designated and sympathetically signposted as a "Quiet Lane" and upon an initial inspection, it would appear to meet the necessary criteria. This article (click here) from the CPRE is a guide to the criteria for a "Quiet Lane"

I believe that such a designation would make drivers more aware of the potential hazards along the route and a safer environment for cyclists and other road users.
