Audlem's cricketers had a disappointing weekend as the 1st XI lost by 3 wickets to Glazebury and the 2nd XI had their game at Langley called off without a ball being bowled.

1st XI skipper Chris Shenton won the toss and elected to bat. Unfortunately with only one run on the board Shenton was out for a duck. Andy Capper and Jim Littlewood took the score to 36 before Littlewood was bowled by Dave Acton for 26. Capper was joined at the crease by youngster Rich Wilson and they shared a stand of 24 before Capper was caught for 12. Wilson and Oli Burney kept the score ticking over until Burney was out for 14 to make it 94 for 4. Eleven runs later Tom Measures was unfortunate to get an inside edge onto his foot, with the ball just hitting the stumps and knocking one bail off.

Andy Rothwell joined Wilson and they took the score to 131 before Rothwell was adjudged lbw off Acton's bowling for 12. Paddy Leese became Acton's third scalp two balls later. Simon Swift and Wilson looked to be comfortable against Galzebury's bowlers until Wilson went for a quick single, changed his mind and was run out for a well-hit 51 leaving Audlem on 148 for 8. Swift was out one run later for ten, but last pair Stuart Elkes and Lyndon Woodcock secured the extra two bonus points as they took the score past the 150 mark. The innings came to a close on 155 when Woodcock was bowled by Acton, who finished with figures of 5 for 28.

Glazebury's reply started off briskly as Jon Gibbons and Dave Mason added 43 before Mason was bowled by Swift. Five runs later Woodcock claimed the second wicket. Gibbons continued to push the score along until he was bowled by Littlewood, leaving the visitors on 64 for 3. Two runs later Woodcock struck again to leave the game nicely poised. Glazebury's Wayne Hargreaves had other ideas as he and Saj Sadiq took the score to 94 before Woodcock had Sadiq lbw for 14. When Littlewood bowled Chris Lord nine runs later the game was once again in the balance. Unfortunately for Audlem Hargreaves found good support from Callum Morgan, who scored 15 before falling lbw to Woodcock, leaving Glazebury on 138 for 7. Jack Warhurst (13 not out) and Hargreaves (43 not out) saw the visitors past the winning post. Woodcock finished with 4 for 47 and Littlewood 2 for 35. Audlem gained 12 points and Glazebury 25.

The 1st XI suffered a setback in their bid for promotion to Division 1 with this loss, as second-placed Frodsham won and gained 20 points. Fourth-placed Saughall could only draw. This now leaves Audlem 12 points behind Frodsham and 2 points ahead of Saughall with two games remaining.

On Saturday the 1st XI take the long trip to Stockport to play Heaton Mersey Village, whilst Saughall entertain Frodsham. The 2nd XI, now in fifth place in Division 5, entertain third-placed Norbury. Games start at 1 pm.
