Audlem 1st XI's faint hopes of promotion were dashed on Saturday as they lost their encounter with Kingsley, whilst the 2nd XI were again thwarted by the poor summer's weather.

After four weeks with no game, last Saturday's "must win" Division 3 match against Kingsley ended in disappointment as Audlem's 1st XI lost by 39 runs. Batting first, home team Kingsley reached 200 for 6 in their 48 overs. Chief scorers were veteran Roy Ashley with 47, well supported by Pete Leatherland, who was unbeaten on 45. To be fair to Kingsley, they batted extremely well, although a number of dropped catches didn't do Audlem any favours. Lyndon Woodcock was the most successful bowler with 2 for 39.

In reply, Audlem's innings started well, as openers Andy Capper (21) and Paddy Leese (14) got off to a good start. Stand-in skipper Steve Swallow exemplified the visitor's determination to win the game as he plundered runs from Kingsley's bowlers. Coming in at number three, he smashed 79 runs to all parts of the ground in an attempt to win the game. Unfortunately, only James Hindle (16) was able to stay with him, as they added 60 runs for the sixth wicket. Swallow was eventually the last man out , still going for the win, caught on the boundary with five overs remaining. Audlem took 7 points from the game and Kingsley 25.

Once again, for the fifth week in a row, the 2nd XI's game fell foul of the weather, being called off at Division 5 leader's Langley. Both teams were awarded 5 points.

On Saturday, the 1st XI plays host to local rivals Sandbach, whilst the 2nd XI travels to Hazel Grove to face high-flying Norbury.
