AUDLEM PROBUS CLUB

"DOUBLE" EXTENDS GROUND -BREAKING RUN

Having broken new ground by welcoming its first-ever female member, Dr HelenMarsden, at the March 27 meeting, Audlem Probus Club immediately followed up by welcoming a second female member at the very next meeting (April 10).

Jean Stainthorpe, although from a North Yorkshire farming family, will be known to many in the Audlem area, having had a smallholding in Hatherton for many years before moving to Audlem. She has retained an Interest in farming and countryside matters, but over the years has developed diverse skills and experience in professional and business fields.

Jean worked as a computer programmer, moving into managerial positions overseeing national IT systems for British Rail, including cultural change during transition to privatisation. She was subsequently self-employed as a business coach and mentor and has spent time as a volunteer with the Prince's Trust, the Campaign to Protect Rural England, and as a Parish Councillor. Other local people will know her as a member of Audlem Rambling Society and through her role with AudlemOnline.

Asked what drew her to join Audlem Probus Club, Jean said: "I've wanted to join Probus for some time as they have such interesting speakers and provide an opportunity to socialise with like-minded people, so am delighted to join a local group."

Retired professionals and business people looking for opportunities to increase their social and cultural activities, including day trips and holidays, with like-minded people are always welcome as guests and new members.

Audlem Public Hall, from 10am. 2nd & 4th Thursdays each month.
