The message was in relation to theft of 'Family Gold' and measures that can be taken to protect yourself.
Storage
- Consider using a safety deposit box.
- Thieves will check hiding places such as: behind a bath panels, loft and under floor boards.
- If valuables are at home, use a safe to store and anchor the safe to a secure surface.
- Store items separately.
Home security
- Consider security of doors and windows and use accredited trades people.
- Monitored alarms, CCTV and lighting are all good security measures to offer a layered approach.
- Always use reputable tradespeople as trades can often be used as a cover to gain entry to your home.
Record and register valuables
- Take photographs of all jewellery on a plain background, with a ruler.

- Consider forensic property marking for all valuables.
- Ensure adequate insurance for home and valuables.
Communication
- Social media posts can assist an offender in selecting a target, be aware of what you post!
- Neighbourhood Watch groups can be a good information sharing platform.
- Be mindful of identifying your household with religious symbols. These can be an indicator for offenders that there may be gold within the house.
- Remain vigilant ad report suspicious activity on 101 or call 999 in an emergency, if there is a crime in progress or you feel in immediate danger.
