Twenty nine homes in the Buerton area were without power from 10.00pm last
night after a pole carrying overhead power cables snapped off at the base and fell into the road.

A local motorist, who reported the incident, narrowly avoided crashing into the power cables as she drove towards Audlem. The pole and live cables blocked the A525 close to the junction with Windmill Lane.

Scottish Power attended at the scene to discover that the wooden pole had failed due to rot at its base. A maintenance team were called out to replace the damaged equipment and restore the supply, but the Woore road remained close to traffic for several hours.
