Police have asked for talks with Cheshire East highways officials over the notorious bends near Hatherton.

The series of sharp bends on the A529 and at the B5017 turn-off to Wybunbury at 'Oaks Corner' have been the scene of a spate of accidents over the years.

Only last week a car overturned on a bend north of the junction and landed on its roof, although no-one is believd to have suffered serious injury.

Now police officers want to meets officials from Cheshire East Highways to discuss what can be done to improve safety along this stretch of road.

Cheshire East Local Highways Officer Mark Bone confirmed that a meeting was planned to discuss police concerns about the A529 but said no agenda had yet been set:

"I can confirm we are meeting with police to discuss their concerns about the road but that is all I can say at the moment," he added.

Meanwhile Cheshire East confirmed that letters have been sent to property owners on the Oaks Corner junction with the B5017 about garden bushes that may be obstructing the view of drivers negotiating a right turn to Wybunbury

Mr Bone said that the open Cheshire Railings has been erected at the junction in order to allow drivers to see oncoming traffic around the sharp bend.

"There is a visibility problem at the junction and property owners have been asked to reduce the height of the bushes in order to improve safety," he added.

Concern over the danger posed by the bends at Hatherton has been a regular topic on the AudlemOnline chatbox with widespread concern expressed over the excessive speed of some drivers and the danger posed by poor visibility and road conditions.
