Cheshire Police have kindly provided Audlem Online with the crime statistics/incidents and public perception survey findings for the Audlem area. Today we'll concentrate on the number of incidents over the past two years and then move on to the public perception findings tomorrow.

The number of incidents in the past 12 months (November 2005 – October 2006) is down by almost 30% While there were 95 incidents in the year, there had been 133 in the previous 12 months. The other good news is that the Audlem figures do not include any murders, rapes, drug related incidents or hate incidents. There was, however, one case of violence against the person, but this was down from 9 the previous year, there was one racial incident and one case of arson in each year.

The bulk of the incidents in Audlem were 'nuisance youth incidents' and 'disturbance in a public place.' Both showed a fall in the past 12 months, from 40 to 37 in the former and 13 to 10 in the latter. Other major contributors to the figures include 'criminal damage', although that virtually halved from 21 incidents in 2005 to 11 in the past 12 months. 'Burglaries of a dwelling' also almost halved from 13 to 7 although 'other burglaries' remained unchanged at 12 in each year. 'Theft of or from a motor vehicle' fell from 14 to 11 incidents. 'Fight related' incidents fell from 2 to 1.

The only figure to show an increase in the past year was 'drunkeness' but this represented a rise from 2 incidents in 2005 to 3 in the past year.

Tomorrow, there'll be an analysis of the Public Perception Survey carried out recently by the police with 176 survey questionnaires completed in Audlem.
