Planning committee's Canalside Yard visit raises questions.

The Borough Council's Development Control Committee site visit to the proposed Muller development at Canalside Yard (Moseley's Yard) today was a strange affair. Mr Muller, as expected, was not there, and all the Councillors did was stand on the pavement and listen to planning officer Alan Millington describe a set of revised plans to concerned Audlem residents and local business people. Strange, yes, because nobody, including the Parish Council, has had a chance to see the new plans or comment on them.

Questions were raised by residents about the lack of sufficient parking spaces and the impact on street parking; how would deliveries be made to the shops without blocking the road; how the 54 wheelie bins would look; the impact on schooling and much else but none were really answered.

None of the councillors entered the site and nor did it appear they ever intended doing so. Considering that what is built on this site will have a massive impact on the appearance of the village for generations, it seemed a very low key visit. We can only hope that the subsequent discussions amongst the councillors has a little more purpose.
