“Pilots n’ Petticoats – Women Masters of the Sky"

Having recently been enlightened about such varied aviation matters as air accident investigation techniques and wing-walking for thrills and raising cash for charities, Audlem Probus Club are taking off in very different direction.

On Thursday next (June 26). the Club’s retired business and professional men and women members are promised a fascinating, fully illustrated talk about the women whose achievements assured them of their places in aviation history. David Skillen describes them as “colourful and determined ladies”, among them the legendary Amelia Earhart and Amy Johnson.

David’s presentation, though, promises much deeper insights, with disclosures about women such as Elisabeth Thible, who took to the skies in the late 1700’s, to astronauts such as Christina Koch. As David says: “These are women who have flown every type of aircraft, from hot air balloons and biplanes to Concorde and the Space Shuttle.”

No lengthy check-in; members, guests and visitors simply turn up at Audlem Public from 10am on Thursday, June 26, then, after tea, coffee and biscuits, buckle up for take-off about 10:45.
