AudlemOnline webteam's new book 'People Power', featured last month on this website, was highlighted on BBC Radio Stoke yesterday in a near half hour interview on the Stuart George programme from just after 4.00pm.

The discussion covered how the website was set up in 2005 and what lessons might be useful for other communities thinking of something similar and how they might attract a large audience.

"Daily news" was the answer. Always have something new every day. We explained that it was a struggle at first but somehow we have got through almost eleven years without missing a single day. Unfortunately, all too many village and community websites stay unchanged for lengthy periods and become rigor mortis sites which readers do not return to.

'People Power' is a working manual for other communities and describes the many technical and journalistic lessons we have learnt over the years. Other villages in Cheshire and as far away as Buckinghamshire and Somerset are now using the control system designed by John Gunstone of ThenMedia with much technical input from John Tilling and photography by team member Alvar Jones.

ThenMedia are now hosting hundreds of websites and have become a substantial Audlem-based company.

The interview was also an opportunity to talk about the attractions of Audlem, its canal and locks and, of course, the up-comg Audlem Music & Arts Festival this weekend.
