Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer's Community Action Fund has reopened with money available for projects across Cheshire that will prevent and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. The application window will be open until 30 June 2023.

There is £100,000 available in the fund for projects which benefit their local community by working towards improving the safety of local residents.

Individual bids of up to £5,000 can be submitted and applicants must have the support of their local policing team for their project. Applications are welcome from community, voluntary or third sector groups, including Parish Councils.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, said:

"I would like to encourage community-minded groups across Cheshire to apply to the fund once it reopens. This is a great opportunity to work with your local policing team to develop solutions to the issues within your community.

"A priority in my Police and Crime Plan is to prevent and tackle crime, and I believe the key to this is developing strong relationships between local residents and their policing team. By working together, we can contribute to making Cheshire an even safer place for everyone."

Bids to the Community Action Fund must be match-funded to provide the maximum benefit to the area, which means the true value of the fund doubles to £200,000. Applicants are also asked to name a contact within their local policing team and Local Authority or volunteer centre when submitting their form.

Previous projects supported by the Fund include a community garden project in Wilmslow, a boxing club for young people based in Nantwich and a Chester-centred women's basketball club. The Community Action Fund has also supported installing CCTV camera's, a children's school holiday lunch club and an education programme on street harassment for young people in Warrington.
