Paddock Lane will be closed next Friday, 16th April, for resurfacing work. Warning signs of the impending work by Cheshire East are already in place.

The appalling state of Paddock Lane's road surface has attracted numerous comments on Audlem Online. Currently, the ruts, potholes and broken up surface where the road meets the A525 would hardly be acceptable in a Third World failed state.

It's to be hoped that similar work will now take place in Coole Lane. In January 2009, the then incoming roads supremo for Cheshire East promised that repairing Coole Lane would be a priority for Cheshire East. While that councillor, David Brickhill, is no longer the portfolio holder for highways, it's assumed that commitment, made in a public meeting, still stands.

Coole Lane is seeing increased traffic with the opening of the Overwater Marina, and many Audlem residents have used the road because of road closures on the A529 in the past month. Its surface is, in parts, just as bad as Paddock Lane and could damage vehicles and be very dangerous for motor cyclists and cyclists.

It's also assumed that when a local politician makes such a clear promise in a county highways public meeting that some action might follow.
