There was a large turnout for last night's Annual Village Meeting in the Public Hall. Residents enjoyed a sociable evening with Wine & Cheese and met representatives from many local organisations.

An exception was made to this 'No Speeches' event when Mike Hill made a short announcement. He read out the official announcement, signed by the Secretary of State for Transport, formally removing the A525 from the Primary Route Network. These words were greeted with loud cheers as a long-running village campaign had ended in victory.

Mike went on to thank many that had been involved, including Derek McKelvey, Howard Hilton and Bill Consterdine who had led earlier bids to tackle the HGV problem. He thanked local MP Stephen O'Brien and the highways officers who had contributed so much in the last few years of campaigning.

RepresentativesThe event included representatives from British Waterways; Cheshire East Tourism; Dane Housing; the Nantwich Policing Unit; Nantwich Dial-A-Ride; Cheshire Carers Centre; Low Carbon Communities; Parish Plan Group; and Trading standards – Doorstep Crime.

More locallly based groups included ADAPT -the local Transition Towns movement; the Audlem Medical Practice Patient Group; the Audlem Parish Plan Group; members of Audlem History Society; Probus; Audlem Scouts, Guides and Brownies and Audlem Parish Councillors.

Comments throughout the evening showed this had been a successful and sociable event. The news received that very day about the A525 meant it was also a night of quiet celebration.
