There cannot be many organisations that see a packed Annual General Meeting where everyone has a great time but, somehow, the official business is conducted with due decorum.

Amazingly, however, that happened last night at the Lord Combermere where forty ARS (Audlem Ramblers Society) members – there would have been a few more but they were marooned by fallen trees – braved the elements and enjoyed a night of formal business, entertainment and a splendid meal.

Tony Crowther was awarded a special prize of a bottle of ARSE wine – it was presented to the group by local residents Nigel and Pauline Epps who spotted the appropriately named bottle in France – for all his sterling work organising ARS and Short-ARS walks, particularly when one of the normal Short-ARS co-ordinators had to duck out of his responsibilities last year.

An amusing photo-driven summary of the year's activities by chair Christine Johnson opened procedings while the post-dinner highlight was a talk by Jean Stainthorpe and Jeanette Shenton on their 34 mile walk along the Sandstone Trail from Frodsham to Whitchurch.

The group has now grown to a membership of ninety and, with finances in a decent state, the AGM voted to return the £100 ADAS originally (and kindly) donated to the Audlem Ramblers Society to get the group going originally.
