The Overwater Wheelyboat Project Launch 0n Saturday 27th June
The Overwater Wheelyboat, a local community charity, is due to launch on The Shropshire Union Canal, providing free pleasure trips to disabled children and adults so that they can enjoy seeing the wildlife and countryside and even go fishing!
The 17ft boat, has been specially designed with easy access for people with mobility issues allowing easy roll on/roll off access for wheelchairs. The launch event will be at the Award winning Overwater Marina, Audlem, near Nantwich, on Saturday 27 June, where the wheelyboat will be based.
A short trip will be available for invited passengers with entertainment from Cheshire Constabulary Corps of Drums and afternoon tea will be served in our marquee.
Rodney Cottrell says "Boat trips from the marina are extremely popular but inaccessible for anyone who can't climb into a boat from the jetty. This new boat allows us to take those people on two-hour journeys along a lovely stretch of the canal offering fantastic views and no locks!"
Thanks to the extreme generosity of several charitable organisations, local businesses and individuals, the new charity has raised over the £30,000 needed to have the boat built along with its special access jetty, the required licensing and immediate running costs.
Anyone interested who would like an invite to the wheelyboat launch event can contact Rodney Cottrell on 01270 811 454 or rodney@kynsal.co.uk and please see: www.overwaterwheelyboat.co.uk for more information.
