One Bridge Opens...

... as another is about to close for 3 weeks.

As of Wednesday afternoon it looks suspiciously like the Coole Lane canal bridge is near to opening, though there has been no announcement of a grand opening ceremony. The barriers are still there, and much kit was still on the road, but sign of life was there none.

The towpath is definitely open, if you're brave enough to plough through mud at the bottom of the steps from Coole Lane.

I guess we should be grateful that the bridge has finally been repaired after so many years (at least 7?) of temporary barriers on the parapet.

However, from the towpath the old elegant bridge has acquired a distinctly patchwork appearance. Not a pretty sight!
