Audlem North West & Britain In Bloom Awards

Well, what a year that was! I'm referring, of course, to the road cleaning, pavement weeding, grass triangle reclamations -- not forgetting the planting, dead-heading and watering -- oh yes, and not one but TWO judging sessions. Exhausting.

Our first judging session was for North West in Bloom on 13 Jul; we have entered this one for several years. The last six have achieved Gold, alongside two years of Best Large Village in the North West and one of Pride of Cheshire. The ADAS volunteers set us up for another Gold, collected by Richard & Carol Cooper from the ADAS committee.

Moving on to Audlem's first-ever entry into Britain in Bloom, judging was held on 01 Aug, with the Awards being held in London on 23 Oct. The AIB team swooped into London from different locations, managing to meet in the same pub. Clever planning, that.

The award ceremony for Britain in Bloom were held at the prestigious RHS Lindley Library, where Audlem received Silver Gilt, a fantastic achievement for first-timers. Guest speakers were Rachel de Thame, who wafted across the stage, according to presenter James Alexander-Sinclair, and Tayshan Hayden-Smith, who is a great ambassador for all things horticultural.

We were only allowed two people on stage to collect the award, so we voted Bryony Nixon and Sam Burdon for the task.

The category for RHS Discretionary Awards for Community Champion was awarded to Adrian Leighton, very well-deserved. Sadly, Adrain wasn't able to attend in London, so it was decided that one of the AIB team would collect his award on his behalf. When we heard that Tayshan would be giving out the award -- we voted; I mean, I voted for me to do the honours. ADAS will present Adrian's award on our Volunteer's Night.

Thank you to all of the ADAS volunteers who make all these awards achievable.

Many thanks
