Some stories just cannot be resisted. We did consider placing this in our 'Strange but True' category of entertaining tales from around the world but, as it happened in our very midst just yesterday, it has to be a 'Latest News' item.

Yesterday, a number of residents were surprised to see a council contractors' van parked on the recently painted double yellow lines in Shropshire Street. These lines mean 'No Parking, No unloading or loading' on the north side of the road, from the canal bridge and running past the Co-op to the fire station entrance.

The van stayed there for a lengthy time, disrupting the flow of traffic through the village, despite there being empty spaces on the south side of the road where unlimited parking in bays is entirely legal.

And the reason the van was there yesterday morning. You've guessed! To unload and install the new signposts decreeing 'No Parking, No loading 8.00am – 6.00pm.'

Perhaps it really is one law for us and another for them!
