No cricket again

For the fourth week in a row, this year's "glorious" British summer has claimed Audlem's cricket teams as its victims. Both of the scheduled Cheshire Cricket Alliance fixtures were called off without a ball being bowled.

Unfortunately the rash of cancelled matches, for which a team is awarded 5 points, has dealt a severe blow to the 1st XI's chances of promotion from Division 3, as their rivals have been able to play and win some of their games over the last few weeks. From being in close contention they are now 60 points behind leaders Rostherne, 52 points behind Haslington and 40 points behind third-placed Kerridge. With a maximum of 25 points for a win, the gap is not insurmountable, but with only nine games remaining, the likelihood of finishing in the top two places is diminishing.

Similarly, in Division 5 the 2nd XI have slipped back into the lower half of the table because of the number of cancelled games, whilst other teams have been able to play and gain more points.

The scheduled matches for next Saturday see both teams playing away. The 1st XI travels to bottom-but-one Kingsley, whilst the 2nd XI faces a tough game at leaders, Langley. Assuming the games go ahead, play starts at 2.00 pm.
