100 Years of Trains to Audlem : 1863-1963

The first talk of the new season will be given by Jeremy Nicholls, the present chair of our Society, who will be speaking on the topic of " 100 Years of Trains to Audlem : 1863-1963."

It charts the arrival of the railway and its impact on the village, drawing on documents dating from the late 19th century, salvaged from Audlem station before its demolition in 1970.

They show how the railway opened up the village to the outside world, enabling people and goods to move easily in and out of the village, transforming a local, self-sustaining economy into part of a national economy.

The talk's sub-title is 'Damsons to Manchester'. Come along and hear aboutAudlem's contribution to fashion in the nineteenth century!

The talk will be held as usual in the Scout and Guide Hall , Audlem, at 7.30pm on Thursday,21st September, 2023, and refreshments will be available at the end of the talk and question time.

New members are always welcome, as are visitors. We ask that visitors pay £4 on the door please.

Also, can members please note that annual subscriptions are now due, and there has been a slightincrease to £15 per member.

We hope you will come along to what will be an excellent and entertaining evening's talk.
