History Meeting

The next meeting of Audlem and District History Society will be held this coming Thursday, 19th May, at 7.30 pm in the Scout and Guide Hall.

The speaker is Roger Wickson, from Audlem, and his talk is entitled:

Thomas Becket --- turbulent priest, or saint and martyr?

On 29th December, 1170, Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered in Canterbury Cathedral by a group of knights, apparently at the command of his King, Henry II. 

 The talk will explore why a man who had been the King's chancellor and personal friend should meet the fate he did.

All are very welcome to Roger's talk, including non-members. Visitors are asked to pay £3 at the door please.
