New Year's Eve Fireworks

You will all recall , I hope , the appeal Matt Bonell and I put out in late January for the rebirth of the fireworks display over the Square at midnight on the 31st of December after it was abandoned at very short -- and quite unannounced notice.
Since then I have been assiduous in the collection of all bar a few of the pledges made by over 70 residents -- who have most generously supported our plea for funds.

Now, today I have been able to negotiate a very special deal for Audlem with one of the countries best and most accomplished pyrotechnic companies , Blitz Fireworks. This will ensure the very best ever lighting up of the midnight skies as Blitz will give us a superb firing .
In addition , we have introduced a prize of £100 for the very best fancy dress on the night, encouraging the return of fancy dressing on New Year's Eve to the village -- as it was a few years ago.

All in all it promises to be a fine community night as we gather in the square to hear the bells of St James , listen to the striking of the clock -- and marvel at the exploding shells overhead , giving fiery bloom after fiery bloom .

Those still to meet their pledge can help me by leaving it at the Lord C for convenience on both sides.
