A contributor writes: "I notice, with some trepidation, that the traffic warden has been out and about handing out tickets in Audlem. Unfortunately the victims have been soft targets, such as those overstaying the 60 minute waiting limit in Cheshire Street, while vans blatantly parked on double yellow lines go free of fines. One traffic warden has already had an earful for "driving away shoppers and village visitors". Which brings me to my point.

"Am I the only one to wonder at the waiting limit on cars parked in Cheshire Street? One hour scarcely seems time for visitors to tour the village and visit all the shops, especially if they also choose to have lunch in one of our excellent cafes or pubs. It is a case of a quickly snatched meal or a parking fine.

"Who decided that 60 minutes was the optimum time for shoppers? And why are the shopper parking spaces sited in Cheshire Street when it is obvious to anyone that most of the village shops are in Shropshire Street and Stafford Street where there is no restriction on roadside parking and people are free to leave vehicles all day?

"What about a sensible compromise? Two hour parking on Cheshire Street and, to make up for the "lost" spaces a similar restriction in Shropshire Street where most of the shops actually are. The shops, cafes especially, will surely benefit from the time-limited parking spaces. Or will this just provoke howls of selfish protest from those who park there all day because they simply can't be bothered to use the public car park and walk into the village?

"By the way, when is that eminently sensible suggestion to place flower tubs outside the church to be implemented? There appear to be flower tubs everywhere else but where they would not only look the most attractive but also where they would help prevent dangerous parking at the same time. What possible reason can there be for leaving such a prominent position bereft of flower tubs? Perhaps someone could explain."

We have had to shorten the question in our Forum section while, hopefully, keeping the full gist of the query. You can respond by clicking on Forum on the top bar and then on the bold question title.
