Steve O'Driscoll is trying to set up a small business in the area to assist people with small repair jobs at a very reasonable rate.

Steve writes:-
I am a retired police officer with lots of DIY experience on my own houses and those of family and friends. My wife and I moved into Audlem in June 2022, I stayed working away in Somerset until I retired in January this year.

Whilst I was away my wife had to call out people to carry out small repairs to our house, whilst the repairs were carried out to a high standard she was charged £80 plus the cost of materials for what was a 15 minute repair. I think this is a bit excessive for something I could have done myself in about 30 mins!
I've spoken to lots of people in the village and asked what they do if they have a minor problem or small jobs that require some assistance to complete. Most replies were that they cant get anybody to do these in a timely fashion i.e. two or three weeks waiting time, I personally need some electrical work doing at my house and both the electricians that have been recommended are unavailable for at least month or more.
When I get the business up and running my charges will be considerably less than tradesman rates (£20 per hour) and no mark up on materials.

This is my business card:-
