Audlem's new marina on the Shropshire Union canal will open next year and has been launched with a new website – click on the link below the photograph.

Janet, Angus and Richard Maughan welcome you in their website to OverWater Marina. They say: "OverWater will be an exciting new marina set in the beautiful Cheshire countryside. It is close to the popular canal destination of Audlem, next to Bridge 80 on the Shropshire Union Canal. The Marina will be open in 2010 and we will soon be accepting bookings for moorings."

The "OverWater" name for the marina comes from the original name of Monks Hall Farm, which, until the late 1800's was called "Over the Water Farm". When Richard Maughan started to breed pedigree Holstein Friesians on the farm in the 1960's he named his herd the Overwater Herd. The farm can only be reached by crossing the canal, the River Weaver or the Spinnaker Brook.

The Maughan's add: "The farm will remain an active dairy enterprise, which is also in Natural England's Higher Level Environmental Stewardship Scheme. We undertake a range of on-farm conservation measures and regularly welcome visitors to look around and learn more about farming and the environment."

More news on the project as we receive it. With four new shops announced on Audlem Online this week; a new Boots opening soon with the chemist's being refurbished and a new marina, there's lots happening in the area.
