have extended the deadline for Councillor applications to Monday 25th November.
We are looking to co-opt one new Councillor and invite applications from residents who want to help shape the future of our community. Apart from the fact that applicants must be over the age of 18, a British or EU citizen and on the electoral roll, Councillors can come from all stages and walks of life.
Councillors work to ensure the views of the community are heard on issues such as planning, highways, law and order, and the environment. They manage the budget to ensure that the correct level of precept is applied for so that local groups can be supported, the public conveniences are properly maintained, and the Parish assets are in good condition. Last year the Parish Council purchased Turnpike Field to protect this 11.5 acre field from housing development. Amongst a number of potential uses are a wildlife sanctuary and a green car park.
Our Neighbourhood Plan -- one of the first in Cheshire East -- was drawn up after extensive community consultation and helps protect against speculative, unplanned development.
If you are yet to attend a Council meeting you are welcome to come and find out more about what happens at 7.30pm on Monday 2nd December in the Methodist Rooms, Shropshire Street. If you would like an informal chat about the role, please contact the Chairman Steve Boyes on 01270 812 192
Please send a letter of application, explaining why you are motivated to apply, also giving and a little about your life and interests to parishcouncil@audlem.org
